The Lola team, who retired from Formula One after just one race because of financial difficulties, has just 11 days left to find a new buyer. If they don't find a buyer by then the team will go into liquidation. The team was hoping to return for the San Marino Grand Prix.
The umbrella company Lola Cars Ltd. will not be affected.
Gerhard Berger topped today's times at the Barcelona track. He clocked a best time of 1m 17.94s. The Benetton team was working on their aerodynamics and suspension. Berger commented: "You just have to make all the small advatages to a big plus."
Frentzen was second with a time of 1m 18.26s. Alesi was this with a time of 1m 18.443s.
Schumacher showed himself a little bit happy with the way things are going: "I am happy with the work we have done today. The balance of the car is better than yesterday. I like the engine, not just because of its power curve but also because of its drive ability. I certainly want to use it for qualifying in Imola. As for the race, the engineers will have to decide as to its reliability, not just for the engine but for all the other components as well."
The Sauber team was working on the aerodynamics and electronics of the car today. Johnny Herbert drove 115 laps with a best time of 59.87s.
