Pedro Lamy crashed his Minardi in the metal rail. He completely wrecked his car but could walk away unhurt. The session was then stopped for four hours until the damage was repaired.

Again almost all the teams were testing at Estoril (Portugal) today. Jean Alesi was fastest together with Jacques Villeneuve with a time of 1m 21.21s. Damon Hill was third with a 1m 21.68s. Michael Schumacher did not do better than 12th because he suffered major electrical difficulties.

The was at last a big test for the TWR F1 team. Tarso Marques drove 87 laps with a 17th best time of 1m 24.23s.
