Summary Race

Damon Hill was looking strong in the early part of the race, but Jacques Villeneuve got him after the last series of pitstops. The Canadian drove away from Hill to take yet another victory. Villeneuve's car was working beautiful today while Hill's had some technical difficulties and a lower straight-line speed, Hill 294 km/h ; Villeneuve 300 km/h. This leafs Hill one point to get the championship in the next race in Japan.

The race saw very few people retiring with nun until lap 41. The only real incident was Mika Hakkinen hitting the back of David Coulthard in the hairpin resulting in a broken front wing for Hakkinen and a flat rear tyre for Coulthard. Both McLarens were in the pits together, Hakkinen got a new nose but Coulthard was sent out again to do another lap on a flat tyre.

Quotes

Villeneuve: "We were counting on the start and for once Damon left the grid pretty good and we had a bad one, it was looking grim at that point. (...) I knew it we got ahead we would finish in front."

Villeneuve on next race: "It's going to be a good battle. Damon is looking good. We're not going to let down until it is over."

Hill: "I felt pretty confident. (...) I tried to stay with him (Villeneuve) but he was really flying. T had got some information on the radio that there was something wrong with the clutch and after that I really concentrated on finishing the race. I can't be too disappointed."

Schumacher the damage to his front wing: "I hit the back (of Alesi) and cut my nose a little bit."
