Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya was quickest again on the final day of testing at the Monza circuit, where Williams and Sauber carried out a three-day session preparing for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal.

Montoya, fastest on Thursday at the wheel of the FW23, was half a second quicker than the other driver present at the track, Sauber's Nick Heidfeld, who took over from teammate Kimi Raikkonen. The German driver completed 64 laps today, working on aerodynamic set-ups and tyre testing for Canada, and he was happy with his progress.

"I was happy with the way that we had the car set up today," said Heidfeld. "It felt in reasonable shape and we were able simply to fine tune the handling with small adjustments during the course of carrying out our overall programme. This afternoon we did a lot of data acquisition work on the new differential, with positive results."

Montoya's running was cut short due to engine problems, but the Colombian was also pleased with his day's work.

"We were meant to do quite a lot of running but lost a bit of track time due to an engine related problem, nothing major, but we learnt quite a lot again," said Montoya. "We managed to complete just about everything we had planned. All in all I thought it was a pretty good test"
