BAR Duo Quickest at Silverstone - Day Two

Wednesday April 4th, 2001

Another wet day hampered the development of the teams present at the Silverstone circuit, where BAR drivers Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis set the fastest times of the session.

Villeneuve, who joined teammate Panis today replacing test driver Patrick Lemarie, topped the time sheets, lapping six tenths faster than the Frenchman, both drivers at the wheel of the Honda-powered 003 chassis.

McLaren drivers Alexander Wurz and Mika Hakkinen were also present today at the British track, the Austrian tester outpacing the Finn, who worked on developing the new electronics systems to be introduced at this season's Spanish Grand Prix. Hakkinen was nearly two seconds slower than Villeneuve.

The Jordan team endured a problematic day. Italian Jarno Trulli also joined the session today, but he saw his day's work delayed due to the late arrival of his car from Brazil. He only completed ten laps and set the fifth fastest time.

Brazilian Ricardo Zonta, fastest on Tuesday, was slowest today, after the team was forced to replace his engine.

Testing at Silverstone continues tomorrow.
