Zonta Quickest at Wet Silverstone - Day One

Tuesday April 3rd, 2001

Alex Wurz in action, todayRicardo Zonta ran over eleven seconds quicker than the rest of the field in the first day of testing at a rain-hit Silverstone circuit on Tuesday.

Brazilian Zonta, who was able to set his fastest lap on a dry track before it rained, worked on electronics and the engine problem that caused Heinz-Harald Frentzen to break down in the latter stages of the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.

McLaren test-driver Alexander Wurz was second quickest, but unlike Patrick Lemarie who tested British American Racing's fourth chassis, Wurz was unable to test McLaren's fourth car as it was not deemed ready.

BAR tester Lemarie was third fastest and completed the most laps - 36 - at the Northamptonshire track as he ran almost a second quicker than team-mate and BAR driver Olivier Panis, who was last in the times.
