McLaren Join Ferrari at Mugello

Wednesday July 5th, 2000

McLaren joined Ferrari at Mugello testing yesterday.

Although Sauber, Prost and Minardi have tested at Mugello before, it is the first time a championship contending team apart from owners Ferrari has tested at Mugello.

McLaren test driver Olivier Panis had the honour of being the McLaren driver to test on the historic day, completing 74 laps, setting the fastest time of 1:27.370.

Luca Badoer ran for Ferrari for the first time at Mugello, having tested for Minardi at the track last year. "This was my first day here at the wheel of a Ferrari," Badoer said afterwards. "I therefore had to get to grips with and learn about the car's handling on this track. I worked on set up and the mechanical side of the car as well as the tyres. I would say it was a useful day for learning and fine tuning." Badoer ran a total of 76 laps, with a fastest time of 1:28.680.
