Team owner Peter Sauber is angry with his driver, Jean Alesi, who apparently breached an agreement with the team and prematurely announced he is leaving Sauber next year. "It's a shame Jean has made this announcement here because I had a meeting with him on Thursday night and we agreed that we would not be racing together next year. But we had both agreed that we would make an announcement at Spa or Monza, not now."
Referring to Sauber's poor pitstop, which say Alesi lose out on a promising finish in the points, Sauber added: "Jean drove a hard race without any mistakes and had the chance to score one or two points. But the problem with the fuel system that arose at our second stop needs careful analysis back home."
However, Sauber was particularly angry at the fact that Alesi's announcement suggested he has had enough with the car's inability to finish races. The Swiss responded that the mishaps of the last eleven races were not always down to the car itself, sarcastically commenting: "Remember Austria – we ran out of fuel there and that was Jean's fault."
