How does the FIA Formula One USA Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway sound? Like another tease to the US fans by Bernie Ecclestone? Like more hot air from Tony George? Well, Tony George says he will seek an answer in the next two weeks for a Grand Prix to be held at the speedway in the year 2000.

George claims there is a "50-50" chance of obtaining the event. Even though North American series such as NASCAR have seen turnouts 100% to 200% greater in one day than Formula One has during three days in a United States event, George says the proposed race could see "the largest crowd ever for a Grand Prix at any time in history - 150,000 initially."

No, the Formula One cars would not run on the full oval, but a circuit built inside the current track. It would utilise some of the straights and travel along the golf course which exists in the infield.

George stated, "(We) may be optimistic, but we either have to pull the trigger or pull the plug. The year 2000 is right around the corner... Formula One cannot afford to miss step in the United States again... If there is going to be a U.S. Grand Prix, it should be at Indianapolis. We offer the best possibility... We can write the check, we can build the facility, we can enter into a business arrangement today to do it. Where the others are, I don't know... I know what it takes us to do this with infrastructure in place..."
