Damon Hill may have to face another slow season in the Jordan-Mugen-Honda. During tests they were quite off the pace of the Williams drivers. Hill stated: "We didn't come away terribly happy with the lap times."
Villeneuve said about Hill's situation: "If the car is not competitive he is probably not going to want to put all his work and effort into it because he's already won the championship. If he has a car that's three seconds off the pace or something he won't see the point in pushing as opposed to last year with the Arrows. So I hope for him that the car is going to be competitive because he is a quick driver."
Villeneuve also had a talk with Michael Schumacher yesterday to clear the air once and for all. Not that he was angry at Schumacher but just stop the press from continuing the rumours about alleged problems. "Not much was said. For a few months we had spoken through the papers, so we just cleared that out. I wasn't angry about the accident itself because I ended up winning so there was no point in me being angry - it's more all the other things that happened afterwards," Villeneuve said.
"I'm not someone to dwell on the past. It's experience, you learn stuff but there's no point waking up every day and thinking about it. It won't have any effect on the way I'm going to be driving. On the racetrack I will be the same against any competitor," Villeneuve added.
Villeneuve is still also eager to win: "Winning a championship has been achieved. But that doesn't mean I don't want to win it again. I'm as hungry as I was last year but at least I don't have to prove that I can win it. There's less pressure from that side."
Craig Pollock of British American Racing announced that they have the finances to sign Michael Schumacher next season and Jacques Villeneuve.
There was, just like last year, a protest by environmentalists at the Albert Park circuit. Last year they spilled gasoline on the track, this year it was just a normal protest. They did manage to reach the Ferrari pit box but nothing was damaged. Security has been enhanced.
