President of the FIA Max Mosley stated today, "we have reached an agreement with the two organizers." Officials from both Hockenheim and Nürburgring negotiated for Germany to hold two Grands Prix a year until 2001.

Hockenheim, 25 km (16 miles) south-west of Heidelberg, has been the main home of the German Grand Prix for the past twenty years and may be remembered for the death of Jim Clark at a minor F2 race on 7 April, 1968.

Nürburgring, 60 km (37 miles) west of Koblenz, has also hosted the German Grand Prix (1985), but has usually been run under the European Grand Prix during its 4 races in the past 20 years. Under F1 rules, no country can hold two races.

This year, the European Grand Prix has been held for, what seems to be, the fiasco with Estoril (Grand Prix of Portugal) from which a second race in Spain at Jerez will be held on the 26th of October. Therefore, Nürburgring will run under the banner of Luxembourg Grand Prix. Ironically, tobacco advertising will be allowed at the Luxembourg Grand Prix.
