Jan Magnussen was taken to a hospital after he had suffered a crash during testing on the Estoril (Portugal) circuit. The Dane returned to the circuit after he had gotten six stitches in his leg.

Jacques Villeneuve was the fastest man on the Estoril (Portugal) track today he clocked a best time of 1m 19.67s. His team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen was second with a time of 1m 19.78s.

Olivier Panis drove his first test as a driver for Prost Grand Prix on the Magny-Cours (France) circuit. Panis drove 90 laps with a best time of 1m 14.77s.
