Nicola Larini tested for the Ferrari team on the Maranello circuit. He tested the new braking system again and clocked a best time of 1m 00.17s, 178.055 km/h, over 110 laps. This is the best time ever set on the Italian track.
The Jordan-Peugeot team have been linked to signing Martin Brundle, but Giancarlo Fisichella may also be applying for the seat. The Italian showed some brilliant things in the Minardi last season and lost out on a Minardi seat yesterday but did well during the Jordan tests today. The Italian clocked, on the Jerez (Spain) circuit, a best time of 1m 29.32s while German Ralf Schumacher did a 1m 29.09s.
However Mansell will not retire from Formula One. When the BBC radio asked Mansell if Formula One was definitely over for him he replied: "I haven't retired. Other possibilities are out there. I am a very patient person, a little bit older now, and I'm just going to wait and see what is round the corner."
Heinz-Harald Frentzen tested for Williams-Renault on Le Castelet (France) and clocked a 1m 06.26s over 37 laps. Frentzen was slightly faster yesterday with a time of 1m 06.17s over 70 laps.
