China is aiming to host a Grand Prix in 1997.

Yu Bing Lin, vice-mayor of Zhuhai City, said: "We very much hope to host Formula One next year. We are talking with FIA and related agencies to try to win the rights to host a race next year. We have the pre-requisito for hosting Formula One and have a circuit of international standard. Also, with this meet, we would have held three international racing events"

McLaren's David Brabham said: "I've had a lot of experience driving around the world in different race circuits. As soon as I arrived here, I could see that it (Zhuhai) was totally geared up for F1. When it is finished, I see no reason why F1 can't come here because it has very high standards."

The 40 million US dollar circuit is build around Zhuhai's Southern Mountain and has a length of 2.68 miles.
