Summary
The crowed saw a three man battle for pole of the Hungarian Grand Prix:
Schumacher, Villeneuve and Hill changed leading places but at the end
Schumacher kept just in front of the Williams' of Hill and Villeneuve.
Both the Benettons were struggling again to keep up.
Notes
- McLaren and Jordan both ran mid-wings on their cars.
- Benetton is using the old wings this weekend and are planning to use the new ones the weekend in Spa, the next Grand Prix.
- Diniz has a technical problem making it impossible for him to leave the pits for a while.
- Montermini, who was still present even though his team, Forti-Corse, was not, said he hoped the problems with the Forti team will be resolved before the next Grand Prix in Spa and he will be up and running in Formula One next year.
- Alesi suffered some engine problems at the end of the session, thus making it impossible for him to improve on his time in the dying stages of the session.
