Summary
The Ferrari qualifying engine drove Michael Schumacher to his second pole
for Ferrari this season. He drove a best time of 1:20.356. Schumacher broke
Hill's fastest lap in the last minutes of the session. Alesi was third in the Benetton-Renault.
Notes
- The Yamaha engine of Mika Salo was replaced after the morning session in
just 40 minutes, but he had problems again during qualifying because his gearbox
broke down, this was fixed during the session.
- Badoer and Lamy hit the wall.
- The rear suspensions of Johnny Herbert brakes on his 10th lap.
- Montermini's Forti brakes down on the start and finish straight.
- Berger spins coming out of the tunnel and he almost hit Schumacher.
- Verstappen spins and damages the nose of the car on his 12th lap.
