Damon Hill, on pole, was beaten last year by Michael Schumacher in the Grand prix of Monaco because of a bad pitstop strategy.

Hill is now looking for his fifth win out of six races this season, and Hill really likes to drive at Monaco: "If you are not impressed by Formula One cars in Monaco then you are not impressed by them anywhere. It has a different atmosphere which is down to the venue on the sea with the boats in the harbour, the sunshine and the twisty corners. All in all, it is unlike any other track we go to. I would like to win here because my father won five times in the sixties. (A record only broken by Ayrton Senna)"

However Schumacher is looking strong after his second place in the last race at Imola. He is even very optimistic on his chances in Monaco, he said after his tests with the F310: "A win is a possibility (...) We have made good progress and we understand the F310 better."

The Tyrrell team is very hopeful about the Grand prix of Monaco. The team showed in the last race that they can compete well in the top ten. Harvey Postlethwaite said: "After a promising performance at Imola, I am looking forward to going to Monte Carlo because we can be equally quick there."

Ukyo Katayama commented: "I prefer fast circuits but Monaco is different because its good fun to dice at 270 km/h between walls with an F1 car. And its not every day that you can drive at that speed in the streets without being stopped by the police."

Teams like Jordan and Arrows are also likely to do well at Monaco.
